Upward Cheerleading

Our culture has created a popularity contest out of cheerleading by evaluating someone’s worth based on their looks and social status. Upward Cheerleading is different! We desire to love your child and build their character and self-esteem as well as teach about the sport of cheerleading.

As a parent, you play a very important role in building the self-esteem and confidence of not only your child, but of every child in the league. Cheerleaders will look to the parents and coaches as models for sportsmanship, respect for authority, and positive attitudes.

The purpose of orientation night is to orient each child and parent to Upward Cheerleading. Sizing apparel is provided to determine the size uniform your child will need. Your child’s coach will contact you shortly after orientation night with practice schedules and team information. Winner’s Kits will be distributed at practice before your season begins.

Your child will receive the following in the Winner’s Kit:
cheerleading top, cheerleading skort, pom-poms and megaphone, Bible, face decals, car magnet, individual awards after each practice and game, and end of the year award.

Practice and Games upwardCheerleading

Practice

One-hour practices will be held during the week. During the practice, coaches will share a short Bible story with the children. During practice, each child will have an opportunity to learn a scripture verse that corresponds with the principle or characteristic conveyed in the story. Each child participating in the scripture learning time will receive a green star award.

Games

Games consist of three 6 minute periods and a 6 minute halftime. Your child’s squad will not have a specific team that it cheers for every game day. All cheers learned by your child will be cheers used to encourage both teams that are playing. There will be no negative cheers.

Star awards are given to every player immediately following each game. Each star is special because: the Blue Star represents Best Effort, the Gold Star represents Best Sportsmanship, the Gray Star represents Best Offense, the Red Star represents Best Defense, the White Star represents Christlikeness.
